About The Instructor,
Dr. Joseph B. Covington
A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dr. Joseph B. Covington is the youngest child of the Late Rev. Lewis and Johnnie Covington. In 1983,Rev. Covington married the former Esther D. Shepard and they h ave three children, Joseph II (JB), Frank Lewis and Brittany Helena. Rev. Joe’s education began in the public school system in Pittsburgh, PA.
In 1978, he graduated from Allegheny Senior High School and then
continued his education at the United Christian College in Goldsboro,
North Carolina achieving a Bachelor of Theology in 1997. He attended
Elmira College in Elmira, New York where he earned a Master’s of
Science in Education in 2003. Later to expand his studies even further he matriculated again at United Christian College to complete a Doctorate of Ministry.
Pursuing more education led him to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts located in North Adams, Massachusetts and SUNY Cortland, Cortland, New York to achieve post-graduate studies in Education Administration.
At the age of 15, Joe accepted Jesus as his Savior at the Young Life Camp operated by Young Life, a Christian organization, in Ashville, North Carolina. This is where his call to ministry began. Dr. Covington answered the call to the gospel ministry in 2002 and was licensed to preach the gospel at the Beautiful Plain Baptist Church, Binghamton, New York under the Pastoral Care of Dr. Edward O. Williamson. He was ordained in 2003. His years of dedication to the church included serving as the church secretary, as a trustee for 5 years and a deacon for 15 years.
His Beautiful Plain Baptist church family affectionately called him the “Reverend-Deacon”. What has been the incontrovertible truth encompassing all of Dr. Covington’s focus is his great love for preaching and teaching in the church and community. He is about kingdom building for the glory of God. He believes we must live out our mission. That mission being “Called by God and united in love for Jesus Christ as we commit to evangelizing the unsaved and equipping the saints for ministry beyond our walls”.
Dr. Covington poured this commitment into his pastored at
Friendship Baptist Church, Corning, New York, Macedonia Missionary
Baptist Church, Fort Deposit, and now the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church of Albany, NY.
